The card was written at Smyrna just 17 days after the city was burnt down during the Turkish/Greek war and the card states 'No English Mail has arrived for a week' with the postcard being struck by boxed POSTED ON BOARD SHIP ABROAD/I.S. having GB 1d adhesive applied and cancelled on arrival by LONDON cds dated OC.6.22. Taken by HMS Cardiff which was at Smyrna on September 23rd leaving on September 31st which was the last day there was permission for allied ships to be moored for relief and the rescue of refugees. 1/2d and 1d 'Postage Dues' added below on arrival at PORTSMOUTH with '1 1/2d' tax mark. Carried by naval baggage.
