1940 (AUG.28.) use of O.H.M.S. envelope addressed to Ireland with type written CERTIFY ON MY HONOUR annotations bearing Aden 3as (x2) and 8a adhesives tied by ADEN cds's. Bears the front of a blank censor label at left tied on the front by red boxed crested PASSED BY/CENSOR No.38 handstamp in red ink. On August 18th the Italian Army invaded Somaliland and both civilians and British troops were evacuated to Aden with no Army postal services being available in Somaliland. There are only 11 recorded uses of these 'Honour' typed envelopes with this being marked as being Somaliland evacuation mail. The Stanley Gibbons catalogues mentions the use of Aden stamps and cancels for Somaliland from July 1st. Exceedingly rare item.

He served in the forces from 1940 returning to Somaliland as Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Native Affairs from 1951-54. Censor 29 is exceedingly rare being the only recorded example to date. A lovely censored item prior to the Italian Occupation.
