1914 3d red-brown on cream registered postal stationery envelope of GB addressed to Glasgow cancelled by ASCENSION cds dated AP.2.16. Blue on white perforated 'blank' type 'R/11' registered label at left similarly cancelled. The censor had opened the envelope at right edge and initialled it in blue crayon and struck the flap by scarce blue two lined PASSED BY/ASCENSION handstamp (Martin type 3) but careless refixed the flap so that the the edge of the pre-stamp impression and the right edge of the censor mark appears on the reverse side. Opened on two sides but never the less a rare use of this GB stationery in Ascension. The reverse side has interesting large 'D' applied in violet with red hooded REGISTERED/LONDON receiving cancel. H&G 37a/b.
