| BR.P.O.IN E.A. (Muscat) - 1945 'Al Busaid' overprints on cover used in India.
1945 (JAN.1.) commercial cover addressed to Wadhwan Camp in Kathiwar (a western peninsula
in the Arabian Gulf Of Kutch in the Gujarat State) bearing the Muscat 3p, 1/2a, 9p and 1a adhesives on reverse side (SG 1-4) tied by MAHADEVI cds a town in Tamil Nadu with boxed WADHWAN CAMP arrival. (Vertical fold). These Indian stamps overprinted for the Bicentenary Of Al Busaid Dynasty were issued on November 20th 1944 but were withdrawn from sale on January 1st 1945. Presumably the purchaser of these stamps decided not to lose their value and affixed them to this Indian mail. There was no reason the stamps should not be accepted in India as those of India had been re-introduced on that day in Muscat until December 1947 when the stamps overprinted by Pakistan came into use. These overprints are exceedingly rare used on cover and this is the first example seen of their use in India. A rarity indeed.
